This project involves the new seismically resilient, seven-story, 203,000 sq. ft. expansion to the east side of the main patient tower at Salem Hospital. The project adds 150 inpatient beds, a chapel, and shelled space for future diagnostic and treatment service areas with ground level outpatient and retail services. The addition replaces the existing emergency department entrance and improves access to the drop-off area and lobby. This project was built adjacent to the busiest emergency department in the Pacific Northwest and was completed without any interruption to life flight, ED services, major facilities interruptions or impact to adjacent patient care. Tie-ins to the existing Building A occurred over 47 phases of contained work to avoid operational impact. This project also included a seismic retrofit of the hospital’s five story parking garage and redesigned the flow of traffic to staff and patient parking.
